A two-seat loveseat with straight track arms, dark wooden legs and loose seat and back cushions, upholstered in a gray textured weave. The visit covered a full cleaning, an enzyme treatment for one spot, Fast Drying for both seats and a Scotchgard finish.
What we found
This loveseat was in a home in Cary, in the area served by our team in Raleigh. The fabric is a crosshatch weave in mixed gray threads, light and dark woven together. That kind of fabric is forgiving to look at: the mix of tones hides everyday soil, so a loveseat can look fine from across the room while the fibers are holding body oil and dust.
The photo above was taken as the work was getting under way, with the cushions already lifted off the frame.
Getting started
We lifted the cushions off, vacuumed them and the deck underneath, and spot-tested the fabric on a hidden area. The spot booked for the enzyme treatment was pre-treated on its own, so the enzymes had time to break it down before any rinsing. The rest of the fabric got a pre-spray for everyday soil. That's the order we follow for all upholstery cleaning in Raleigh and the nearby towns.
The tricky part
The texture. A crosshatch weave has raised and recessed threads, and soil settles into the low points between them. A quick pass with the extraction tool skims the raised threads and leaves the recesses as they were, and on a mixed-gray fabric that difference is hard to spot until the loveseat is dry and the cleaned and missed areas show up side by side.
How we solved it
The technician worked the solution into the weave with a soft brush, in two directions, before extracting, so it reached the bottom of the texture instead of sitting on top. Extraction followed in slow, overlapping passes, edge to edge on each cushion, and extra dry passes pulled out as much moisture as possible. Fast Drying was set up for both seats, and once the cleaning was done the fabric got the Scotchgard protection booked for this visit.
The result
The loveseat after cleaning, photographed from the back while the cushions were still propped up to dry. The fabric is even across the arm and the outside back, with no lines left between passes.
After we leave
- Keep the cushions propped up and stay off the loveseat until it's fully dry: usually 4–8 hours with air movers, up to 24 hours without them.
- Give the Scotchgard finish the same drying time before the loveseat goes back into everyday use.
- Blot spills right away with a dry white cloth. Protection buys time; it doesn't make fabric spill-proof.
Fabric that's worn or faded from use stays that way; cleaning removes soil, not wear. Every job comes with our 14-day free re-clean guarantee: if you're not fully satisfied, we come back at no charge.
