A curved four-seat sectional in cream bouclé, the kind of sofa that is the centerpiece of the room. Its seats had slowly turned from cream to gray, and on a fabric this light, that shows.
What we found
The sofa was in a home in Cary, one of the Triangle towns covered by our Raleigh team. It is a low, rounded sectional in separate modules, upholstered in bouclé: a fabric woven from looped, nubby yarn. The straight section had a gray cast across the seat, darker toward the front edge where legs rub, and a dark speck in the seam between seat and back.
Bouclé is a soil trap by design. Every loop is a tiny hook that holds on to dust, skin oils and lint, and because the surface is three-dimensional, the soil sits deeper than it would on a flat weave. It builds up evenly, so it's easy to miss until the cream turns gray.
Getting started
We vacuumed every section, including the seams and the curve, read the cleaning code and spot-tested a hidden area. The seats then got a pre-spray for everyday body-oil and dust soiling, with a few minutes to work. This is the same order we follow for all upholstery cleaning in Raleigh and the Triangle.
The tricky part
Bouclé doesn't forgive rough handling. Scrub it hard and the loops open up, fuzz or pull flat, and the fabric ends up looking worn in exactly the spots that were cleaned. Soak it and the dense loops hold the water, so the seat dries slowly and can leave a line where the wet area ends. The soil had to come out of the loops without either of those things happening.
How we solved it
The technician worked with light moisture and gentle agitation, pressing the solution into the loops with a soft brush instead of scrubbing across them. Extraction followed in short, overlapping passes with the tool kept flat, and each section was cleaned edge to edge so there was no line between cleaned and uncleaned fabric. Then came dry passes to pull out moisture, a light brushing to lift the loops back up, and the Fast Drying and Wellness treatments that come with this service.
The result
Same sofa, seen from the other end. The seats are an even cream again, with no gray cast along the front edge, and the bouclé loops look full rather than flattened.
After we leave
- Stay off the sofa until it's fully dry, usually 4–8 hours with air movers, up to 24 hours without them.
- Vacuum bouclé with a soft brush attachment, never a beater bar; it catches loops.
- Blot spills, don't rub them: rubbing spreads the spill and roughs up the loops.
Loops that have already been pulled or snagged stay that way; cleaning removes soil, it doesn't re-weave the fabric. Every job comes with our 14-day free re-clean guarantee: if you're not fully satisfied, we come back at no charge.
