White leather looks spotless in the showroom and shows every day of use at home. This six-seat reclining sectional had reached that point: the seats had turned a dingy gray-yellow, while the backs were still close to white.
What we found
This was a home in Cornelius, near Charlotte, and a job for our team in Charlotte. The sectional is smooth white leather with power recliners, a curved corner seat and consoles with cup holders. The soiling followed the way people sit: a cloudy gray-yellow film over the seat cushions, darkest in the middle and along the front edge, and a duller, grayish tone on the corner seat.
Body oils and everyday dirt don't soak into finished leather the way they do into fabric. They build up as a film on top of the finish and in the fine grain, and on white leather that film shows up as a gray or yellow cast.
Getting started
Leather is never steamed or flooded with water. We vacuumed the seams and crevices first, tested the cleaner on a hidden spot, and then worked by hand. This service includes a pH-balanced leather cleaner, spot treatment, conditioning and buffing, which is the standard sequence behind how we approach leather cleaning in Charlotte.
The tricky part
The film was heaviest exactly where the leather flexes most, in the middle of the seats and along the front edge. Scrubbing harder there is tempting, but on white leather it can wear the protective finish thin and leave a patch that looks duller than the rest of the cushion. The goal was to lift the soil without changing the surface.
How we solved it
The technician cleaned in small sections, one seat at a time: the cleaner was worked into the grain with a soft brush, given a moment to loosen the film, and wiped off with clean microfiber before moving to the next area. The heavier seats got a second light round instead of more pressure. Once the whole sectional was clean, the leather was conditioned and buffed so the seats matched the backs in tone and sheen.
The result
Same seats. The gray-yellow film is gone, and the cushions are back to the same clean white as the backs.
After we leave
- Give the conditioner a few hours to settle before sitting on the sectional.
- Wipe white leather with a dry microfiber cloth every week or two so the film doesn't build up again.
- Keep the seats out of direct sun and away from heat vents, which dry leather out.
To be straight about it: cleaning removes soil from the surface, it doesn't restore color. Dye transfer from clothing that has worked deep into the finish, cracks and worn spots stay what they are. Every job comes with our 14-day free re-clean guarantee: if you're not fully satisfied, we come back at no charge.
